Nobelskyi
Nobelskyi National Nature Park is located in Ukraine’s picturesque Polissia region and covers an area that is home to 12 lakes and seven rivers, including Lake Nobel, the largest lake in Rivne Oblast.
Nobelskyi National Nature Park is home to many rare species of flora and fauna. Among the plants, there are 26 species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, such as the sand astragalus and prickly pine. The park’s ‘carnivorous’ plants are particularly fascinating – they include the waterwheel plant and sundews, both of which feed on small insects.
The Park’s fauna is also rich in rare species. Birds listed in Ukraine’s Red Book include the black stork and the white-tailed eagle. Mammals include the forest polecat and the lynx. The park’s wetlands are home to the river otter and the European mink.
These natural treasures make Nobel National Nature Park a unique place for biodiversity research and conservation.
The National Nature Park also offers great opportunities for ecotourism. Visitors can explore the park’s scenic lakes by boat, or set out on foot to discover forests rich in wild berries and mushrooms, making the park particularly attractive to nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Frankfurt Zoological Society supports monitoring of the reserve, in particular by providing camera trap equipment to track wildlife.
As Nobelskyi National Nature Park was only established relatively recently, it currently lacks administrative infrastructure such as buildings that can serve as a base for park operations. Therefore, together with partners from the Nature Conservation Foundation and Tellus Conservation, the Frankfurt Zoological Society is renovating a building for use by the park.
